On July 1st, Marvel dropped the first three episodes of X-Men 97 on Disney Plus. The Spotters, Meg and Liv, were fortunate enough to be in attendance for the first big Los Angeles watch party of 2026, at the Scum and Villainy Cantina in Hollywood. They were able to view episodes 1-3 along with Lenore Zann (voice of Rogue), Gui Agustini (voice of Sunspot) and Director of the OG TAS (and X-Men 97 Executive Producer) Larry Houston as well as X-friends from all over the world who came together for the event!

The event was at full capacity with a line wrapping around the block before (and even after) the doors opened. The bar had a special menu of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic X-Men themed drinks, such as the Rogue’s Kiss and a wide variety of snacks (the tots were amazing, we all agreed). A large portion of the crowd (including Meg and Liv) were decked out in their finest Season 1 and 2 cosplays.

Attendees sung along with the theme song, cheered when their favorites appeared, laughed and even cried a little (no spoilers!). They took photos with the celebrity guests and asked questions during a brief Q and A session after the episodes concluded.

Overall, the event was an amazing experience - Packed full of fans who can’t wait for the next episode - and hoping for the return of our boy, Gambit. “The X-Men ‘97 Season 2 premiere at The Tribeca Film Festival was something special.

We were shown the first two episodes of season two, and the energy in the room during the screening was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before.

You could feel the excitement and joy from fellow fans, the cast, and the crew the whole time.

I’ve never experienced anything like it.

Just from the little of it I saw, I can confidently say that Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 is well worth the two-year wait.

There’s no time wasted. Much like the first season, the animation is gorgeous, and the cast’s performances are phenomenal.

We’re truly in for an emotional and wild ride. July 1st can’t come soon enough!”
